Modern Potions began as a simple quarantine “project” to give one out-of-work bar manager something to stay busy and continue creating. My joy and intent has always been built around the idea of creating well-crafted, seasonally changing, locally sourced drink menus for the Portland community. Making an inclusive menu that provides delicious spirit-free beverage options has been important from the start, too.

Like many things over the course of 2020, Modern Potions was born in an unusual time with strange circumstances. The project was purely one for the fun of it, to stay busy and continue to create during quarantine. However, I quickly pivoted my business model when I realized I could have a positive social impact, too, in my local Portland community. Any time the live Modern Potions project ramps up again, a minimum of 25% of all sales get given back to important initiatives in the community.

Thanks to the positive reception of Modern Potions for folks & friends in the Portland community, my little side gig was able to give back nearly $1500 to the following organizations during the 2020 season:
